This quarter, we asked Alykhan a few questions:

Can you please provide us with a background on your education and your career?

I completed the Bachelor of International Business program at Carleton University while spending third year on exchange in Paris, France at Sciences Po University.  Graduated in 2006 and started working in Capital Markets research and then moved on to Foreign Exchange.  I was more interested in Financial Analysis and Wealth Management so I took an opportunity at BMO Nesbitt Burns in 2011 where I remain today and became a CFA Charterholder in 2016.

What initially sparked your interest in the Finance industry, specifically in investments & Financial Planning?

Courses in University sparked my interest in finance & investments, which was amplified by my first job in Capital Markets. I had a mentor shortly after finishing University that encouraged me to continue learning and find a role that suited me well. I found that at BMO Nesbitt Burns where my current role is very interesting and enjoyable. I have always been creative in financial planning and investments and this role allows me to teach others to be so as well while creating a road map to help them reach their goals.

Being a CFA Charterholder, what are the benefits of holding this designation?

The benefits are a deep understanding of all of the financial instruments, accounting practices and planning techniques, and mathematics that surround them. The very in-depth learning that takes place in the CFA journey on a vast amount of material provides a fluency in analyzing various forms of financial investments and planning that most of your colleagues may not have. There is also a global recognition for being a CFA Charterholder which is helpful in my role.

What do you enjoy the most about your current role?

I love that I get to help individuals, families and various entities everyday. I very much enjoy learning about the multitude of financial investments, products, and tax strategies and having the opportunity to seek the best options for each client and help them apply it towards reaching their financial goals.
